Physiology

Height and Weight

Kisha are about the same height as their Human progenitors, not counting their wings which typically adds another 5 to 10 cm to their height. The average Human male is about 1.8 meters tall and the average female is about 1.75 meters tall. Body mass is noticeably lower, however. Males typically mass about 75 Kg while females weigh in around 60 Kg.

Appearance

Except for their wings, Kisha appear very similar to Humans. Skin coloration varies from dark black through shades of brown and yellow to peach color. Hair colors run from black through brown to red and blond. Eye colors can be blue, green, gray, brown, or mottled mixes. There seems to be no preference toward coloration. Their wings tend to follow their hair colors. About 20% of the time, their wings will be multicolored. Even then, the range of colors stays within the typical hair colors and usually only involves 2 similar colors.

Kisha have a mirror symmetry to their bodies with the left and right halves being essentially mirror images of each other. They have two ears, eyes, arms, legs, and wings and one nose and mouth. Each arm ends in a single hand with 5 digits. Each leg in a single foot with 5 toes. About 85% of Kisha are right handed while about 15% are left handed. Less than 1% are ambidextrous.

Diet

Kisha are omnivorous showing no inherent dietary preferences. Variations in dietary preferences are matters of taste or culture rather than a biological need.

Rest

The natural 'day' cycle for Kisha is 24 hours. Their day is typically divided into three 8 hour periods. One for sleep and the other 2 for normal waking activities. A Kisha requires about 8 hours of sleep per 24 hour period. Failing to get the required amount of sleep has fatigue effects as described in the fatigue rules.

Reproduction

Kisha may mate with Kisha or Humans. Parings between Kisha produce Kisha offspring. Parings with Humans produce Kisha about 60% of the time. Kisha can not successfully breed with Darid. With Neo-Humans, there is only a 10% chance of success in which case the child is 95% likely to be Kisha.

Kisha females bear live offspring after a gestation period of about 9 months. Single births are common while multiple births are somewhat less so. There is no tendency towards the child being of one gender or the other. Note that during the final to months of gestation, the Kisha female typically will not fly due to the added weight. They can but typically only do so in emergencies.

Senses

Kisha have five basic senses: Sight, Hearing, Touch, Taste, and Smell. Except for sight, these all fall within Human norms. Kisha typically have more acute vision then the average Human. This results in a slight bonus to vision based tasks (+5%) such as Perception.

Additionally, Kisha have an innate sense of direction and orientation. It takes a Kisha a few days to adapt to a planet's gravity and magnetic fields but after doing so, they will have the ability to return to any place they've been (5% chance per day on planet to a max of 90% - must be acclimated before using ability) and gain a +20% to Navigation. Additionally, these senses give them a +25% bonus to flying any sort of aircraft in an atmosphere and a +15% bonus when flying craft outside an atmosphere.

Anatomy

Kisha anatomy follows the Human norm more than it deviates. The primary differences involve the attachment of their wings with associated changes in muscle and bone structure across the back and shoulders. The muscle density is slightly lower (resulting in reduced average strength) while their heart and lung capacity is slight increased (resulting in enhanced Endurance). Their brain and nervous systems seem somewhat altered resulting in greater dexterity. This alteration is only noticeable upon detailed examinations. It in theorized that another side effect of this alteration is a limited form of levitation which augments their wings giving them the ability to fly.

Kisha have range of blood types. These are O+/-, A+/-, B+/-, and AB+/-. Kisha blood in plasma form can be given to Humans, Neo-Humans, and Darid but whole blood can only be used by other Kisha.

Lifespan

A typical Kisha lifespan is about 110 years. Kisha growth and development follows the Human norm. Kisha reach independence at about 13 and full adult hood about 18. They gain the ability to fly at between ages 3 and 6.

Psychology

Family

Kisha families are more like clans. The clan head is usually the most successful and most wise of the extended family's elders. The clan provides the emotional and financial support for individual clan members. When two Kisha marry, you usually select which clan to be their primary affiliate. Naturally, contact and interactions with the secondary clan are maintained but responsibility for the health and welfare now, culturally and legally, reside with the primary clan. Like Humans, the Kisha parent child bond is particularly strong. Parents remain very protective of their children long after they are adults.

Exploration

Another major motivation for Kisha is exploration. It appears that the Elders designed in a desire for exploration and travel. Kisha tend to be very interested in seeing new places and exploring. However, they also have a strong tie with their place of birth and will frequently return there (or as close to it as possible) during important life events (marriage, death, etc.). Because of this tie with their place of birth, many Kisha females carefully choose where their child will be born, often choosing the homeworld.

Society and Culture

Kisha have adopted many fragments of culture from other worlds as they have explored the galaxy but a few things remain common across all Kisha societies.

Religion

Kisha have a range of religious beliefs but, like the Darid, they know who created them. Their religions tend to address life after death and bigger questions of why life exists at all. They frequently do not have deities in the normal sense but often believe in an intelligence or intelligences that shape or guide the galaxy and all life in it. These intelligences are usually beings of pure energy or thought and frequently personify natural forces. These creatures transcend the mundane existence and therefore not only can influence the universe but will survive its ultimate fate. Many texts imply these creatures are from a higher dimensionality.

Social Species

Like Human, Kisha are very social creature requiring social interaction to maintain physical and mental health. This is especially true for children, as it is with Humans. Like Humans, social interaction can come from a variety of species but Kisha tend to prefer other humanoid species over interactions with truly alien species.
