The Tyconian Traveller Pages
The Tyconian Traveller site covers the rules and background used in my Traveller game. Like many people I have extensively modified the setting and, to a lesser degree, the rules to my own personal tastes. In fact, very little of this work even resembles the original Traveller background. Despite this, it is derived from and inspired by Traveller and incorporates many key concepts from that game. Concepts that transcend game system rules.

Campaign Overview
As the name of these pages imply, the campaign setting is the Tyconian Empire. The Empire is rather small covering less that a full sector. In addition to the official regions, there are several subsectors that are considered possessions, under control of the Empire but not technically part of it. The Empire is populated by 6 core races. In addition an NPC race, The Elders, has greatly influenced the region even though they are no longer present.
Several key elements of the game strongly influence the game setting and culture. Some of these come directly from Traveller while others are of my own invention. These elements include the following:
- Interstellar communication is limited to the speed of interstellar travel.
- The Empire is ruled by a group of nobles who have authority over all interstellar activity. Star systems within the Empire are mostly autonomous otherwise.
- All the races here, except the Tyconians, were seeded or genetically manipulated, presumably by the Elders. The Tyconian race is the only one to naturally evolve in this region of space.
- The Empire runs on commerce, as such, businesses have a great deal of power and influence, in some cases owning and governing entire planets.
- Once you leave the Empire proper, you enter a frontier zone that is a haven for criminals and illegal activity. The further you go the less safety and security you find.
- Once outside the Empire, the odds of finding any interstellar capable races are very small. Most such high tech planets are Imperial colonies, military installations, or business ventures.
- Because of the expense and difficulty, there has been little exploration of space beyond the immediate surroundings of the Empire. Thus the truly adventurous can reach essentially uncharted territories fairly quickly. As noted above, however, such regions are dangerous and lack the advanced facilities needed for repairs and supplies.
